DMCA and copyright notices

If you hold rights in a video and want the converter here to refuse it, email us the video's link, something showing that you own or represent the rights, and the statements listed below. Complete notices are normally actioned within a few business days, after which conversion of that video stops.

What blocking means on this site

This site hosts no videos. It converts a YouTube video on request and hands the result to the person who asked for it. Blocking therefore works by adding a video's YouTube identifier to a refusal list on our conversion relay: from that point on, any attempt to convert that video — in either format — is turned away before any processing begins.

The video itself stays on YouTube, unchanged and still public. Only conversion through this site is prevented. If what you want is the video removed from YouTube altogether, that request has to go to YouTube, and we cannot help with it.

What a valid notice has to contain

We follow the notice-and-takedown model of the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512) and apply the same procedure to rights holders everywhere. Your notice needs all six of the following:

  1. Your contact details. Full name, postal address and email address, plus the company or client you are acting for if you are not the rights holder yourself.
  2. The video. The full YouTube address of every video you want refused. A list of links is welcome; a description without links is not, because blocking works by identifier and there is nothing else we can match against.
  3. The work. Enough to identify the copyright work you say is being infringed — title, author or label, and a registration or catalogue number if you have one.
  4. A statement of good faith. That you believe in good faith that the use complained of is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  5. A statement of accuracy. That the information in your notice is accurate and that, under penalty of perjury, you are the copyright owner or are authorised to act on the owner's behalf.
  6. Your signature. A physical or electronic signature; typing your full name at the end of the email is enough.

A notice missing any of these is answered with a request for the missing item rather than acted on. Sending a notice you know to be false can make you liable for damages under § 512(f).

What happens after you send it

  1. We acknowledge receipt by email.
  2. We check that the notice is complete and that the links point at real YouTube videos.
  3. The identifiers go onto the block list and are deployed to the relay. From that moment a conversion request for those videos fails with an error instead of producing a file.
  4. We confirm when the block is live.

There is no counter-notice step on this site, for a simple reason: it has no accounts. When a video is converted, nobody signs in and nothing identifies the person who asked, so there is no one to notify and no one who could file a counter-notice. The block is applied to the video rather than to a user.

Notices covering many videos

Labels, distributors, collecting societies and agencies with large catalogues are welcome to send one notice covering many videos, and to follow an accepted notice with further links under the same reference. The six elements above are required once per notice, not once per link.

If the converter is being abused

The terms of use restrict this service to material the user is entitled to copy. We cannot see who converts what, but we can and do refuse individual videos on request, and we may rate-limit or block traffic that looks automated or abusive. If your concern is wider than a single video — systematic scraping of a catalogue, for instance — describe it in your notice and we will look at the traffic pattern as well as at the links.

Anything that is not a copyright matter

Privacy questions, bug reports and general feedback are welcome at the same address, but please leave off the "Copyright notice" subject line so they are routed separately. Notices that are not copyright notices may take longer to answer. If your question is about data rather than rights, the privacy policy is the better place to start.
